SPORTS MASSAGE
WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A NORMAL MASSAGE?
IS SPORTS MASSAGE ONLY FOR ATHLETES?
Sports massage is a targeted, outcome-focused therapy that manipulates soft tissue (muscles, tendons, fascia) to improve recovery, correct imbalances, and enhance performance. Unlike a relaxing massage, it uses deeper techniques like Trigger Point Therapy to address chronic pain and muscle dysfunction.
No, not at all. While beneficial for athletes, sports massage is highly effective for anyone experiencing chronic pain, tightness, or restricted movement due to poor posture, office work, or physically demanding jobs. It is therapy for muscle dysfunction, regardless of the cause.
HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?
Sessions from £30
WILL A SPORTS MASSAGE HURT?
It may involve some therapeutic discomfort when addressing deep muscle knots or trigger points, which clients often describe as a "good pain." However, your therapist will always work within your comfortable pain threshold. The goal is release and relief, not suffering.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY APPOINTMENT?
Your privacy and comfort are paramount. You will generally be asked to undress down to your underwear (or comfortable, loose-fitting shorts/sports bra for women). The therapist uses towels to cover all areas of your body that are not actively being worked on.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A SPORTS MASSAGE?
The frequency depends entirely on your goals and activity level:
-
Acute Issue/Injury: You might need weekly or bi-weekly sessions initially.
-
Maintenance: For general well-being, active people often benefit from a massage every 4–6 weeks.
-
Intense Training: Athletes in heavy training blocks may benefit from sessions every 1–3 weeks.
Your therapist will recommend a plan based on your initial assessment
HOW SHOULD I FEEL AFTER A SPORTS MASSAGE?
Most people feel immediately lighter and relieved with an increased range of motion. It is very common to feel some mild soreness or tenderness in the treated muscles for 24 to 48 hours - similar to post-exercise muscle soreness. It is important to drink plenty of water to help flush out metabolic waste released during the massage.
About GC Bodycare
Hi, I’m Gemma - a dedicated Sports Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer with nearly a decade of experience helping people move, train, and feel their best. I began my career as a Personal Trainer in 2016, and over the years, I noticed a recurring theme: many of my clients were being held back by persistent niggles, old injuries, or muscular imbalances. I wanted to offer more than just fitness guidance - I wanted to help them move pain-free. So in 2021, I expanded my skillset and qualified in Sports Massage Therapy.
Since then, sports massage has become a real passion of mine. Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with everyday aches, or just want to keep your body in top form, my goal is to support your recovery, reduce pain, and help you get back to doing what you love - whether that’s training hard or simply moving well.
I'm currently available for appointments on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and alternate Saturdays. If you have any questions or would like to book in, feel free to contact me directly on 07427 124164 - I’d love to help.
